Munda tribes are one of the oldest tribes still in existence in India. Back in the time, they dwelled in the Sindhu valleys, now parts of Punjab and the north. They migrated at a steady rate from the Kalibonga, UP to the current of state of Jharkhand in the indin subcontinent.
looking at the population density they are mostly found in Jharkhand followed by parts of Odissa, Assam mp, Bengal, Andaman, and Bangladesh.
Munda tribes call themselves Hodo meaning people. some say Munda itself means people. Some say Munda was a name given by the Aryans. and some says Munda comes from the word muhundu, which means native people.
some scholars say the Munda tribes first dwelled in a country named Moriya. and as it goes from Moriya it narrowed down to mori and later it became Munda. and it has also been known that they regard the head of the village as Munda. this name or position was quite known and hence the people regarded them as Munda, which as we now know them as.
